Without Guile....

"Having thus chosen our course, without guile and with pure purpose, let us renew our trust in God, and go forward without fear and with manly hearts." -Abraham Lincoln

Wouldn't it be interesting to know what Character Traits other people would use to describe you? I remember the funeral service for Vera Sandberg several years ago. Two attributes that kept coming up in eulogy remarks were that Sister Sandberg was "Good" and that she was "Kind."

Vera was a wonderful woman and I think those words were a perfect tribute! Sometimes we might think it is important to be known for traits that make us seem special or unique. Who wouldn't like to be described as being "brilliant," "talented," "clever," "creative," "beautiful," or "fashionable"? But, honestly, when we are really gone for good one day (hopefully not for many years) will it really be important to seem larger than life in one area or another? Do accolades of distinction really matter?

In my heart I know that the bright-witty-gorgeous-stylish labels are inconsequential and the "Vera Labels" of "good" and "kind" are the most amazing attributes of all! Someone like Vera, who is remembered for being good and kind, is clearly someone who is "without guile" which I think is about as good as it gets!
