All it takes to realize our dependence on electricity is to unexpectedly lose power at home for a day! When PG&E was trimming trees on Alpine Avenue this morning they ran into some trouble and soon we had no electricity! With an electric gate at the driveway this presents an additional problem. No power; no way to leave via car! The outage brought back memories of a old Joni Mitchell classic song: Big Yellow Taxi. The lines in the chorus go like this:
"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got
Till it's gone"
"...they paved paradise, and put up a parking lot)." So, while I was waiting around for the lights to come back on I ended up humming an old favorite. Unfortunately I couldn't actually play Joni singing it without power!
